Entry from: Prague, Czech Republic
Entry Title: “Prague… Wow”

Entry:

“What a day… but before that..

Yesterday we went out and had a great dinner, I’m pretty sure I experienced my first vegetables since leaving Australia… Malnutrion is vanquished for another day. Got an early nights sleep after the mandatory 3 Steigl Beers and then rose this morning at 6:30.

We found our way back to the train station and found our we were partially misled when enquiring about our next journey 2 days before.

Original Story (a.k.a **** Express)

“Oh, you vant to go to Prague? Vell dat is easy… No.. No reservation… Come to zee station at 9:08am. You catch.. Train… yah.. and get to Prague at 4:30… gut.. very gut!”

The Real Deal

We get in and find that although we board a train.. we only get to stay on it for an hour. After which we run across a station and find a bus to take us to another station ‘Summerau’ 70km north. Once there we once again run frantically around until we find what seems to be an engine compartment…. (nothing else)… oh… its our train.. Welcome to the Czech Republic Est. 1993. So we ride in that for a bit until a ticket inspector morphs out of nowhere and asks for our proof of travel.. Its ok.. we have our handy dandy eurail passes right?… wrong. Turns out Czech Republic.. while being a member of the European Union.. does not deem itself to be part of the rail network.. so that will be… 1200… Krown?… Whaa?. Ok… she’ll take Euro.. thank god.. Then comes another bombshell… its time for another bus. This time we bus along through the Czech Repulic in search of another train. We find it eventually and board, and somehow big guns upstairs is looking down on us for at least a moment.. its the right one.

Into Prague we go..
D: “Steve.. you have the hostel directions yeah?”
S: “Haha funny **** man… so another bus there?”
D: “Yeah when you give me those directions”
S: “So you don’t have them?”
S & D: “Sigh”

But its alright, we walked a few k’s round and found an internet cafe, and before you know it we’re at the hostel… This place is awesome. Cheap beer (Going from the change in writing style.. you may have gathered this already), Great bohemian atmosphere, free net, hundreds of couches.

We’ve just met some Aussies (Impossible not to in this god forsaken continent haha), and it looks like a big night ahead)… Photos tommorow

Losta Love from Up-Over

What is the best way to travel around Europe ? Starting in Greece – Italy Germany Switz ect and moving north back to England.

?

A Eurail ticket can be good value. Choose the pass that suits you best. You can do some bus journeys too, most operators around Europe are fairly cheap and reliable. A Greece/Italy pass also includes the ferries. Read down
http://www.eurail.com/eurail-passes/select-pass . . .
For accommodation check with Hostelbookers, Hosltelworld etc for independant hostels and budget hotels.
Reliable, safe, never a problem with them on five continents so far
Small deposit up front, balance on arrival. Every place I booked had me on the arrivals list and a record of the deposit paid.
Meet people from all over the world, save money by cooking in the self catering kitchen where available, shopping together and sharing the food and you’ll get all sorts of cooking and they get British cooking or whatever you do. Some weird and wonderful fusions can come out of that…..have fun.
Korean English breakfast? Wouldn’t be the first time it’s hapenned, haha.

Should I travel to USA or inter-rail through Europe?

Should I travel to USA or inter-rail through Europe?
So, Im Irish, last summer I spent 3 months working in New York city. I am going to travel for the summer of 2012. I cant decide between going to California for 3 months and seeing a a few more states or should i travel through central Europe? Opinions please. thanks

Personally I would go for the Californian option. I spent a good couple of week in Long beach and Venice Beach.
