So, go through all the accommodation offers in the place of your choice and then book the one that is reasonable. However, you would have to be capable of selecting the right accommodation based on the place where it is located. If you are on tour to Paris and the window of your hotel room provides you the view of the Eiffel Tower then that is absolutely perfect. In that case you can bear a bit also.

Also you can avoid taking tourist guides by deciding to roam the city by your own. That is nothing tough and the maps will help you in that. Also by not traveling through taxi you can choose to travel through the local train services. That too is a great fun to see the beauty of Europe and its natural places. Thus, cheap Europe vacation is quite easy to be afforded if you know how to go for it.

Car Travel Tips: Driving in Europe

Many people prefer to drive their own vehicle while on holiday rather than fly. Driving to Europe can be especially nice. It’s a great way to get to know a foreign place that you may not see so clearly if you were to fly. Of course, those that are new to driving in Europe would be wise to learn a little about it first. It can be quite different than driving in your home country. There are a few things that you need to be aware of if you plan to take your own car to Europe.

Be selective regarding the time of year that you plan to go to Europe. Certain seasons are much better for driving than others. The spring and the fall is the best time to drive through Europe. Other seasons such as winter are very busy there due to holidays like Christmas. It can be extremely frustrating to drive at that time of year.

Certain European cities are much harder to drive in than others. The very busy ones like London and Paris will be more likely to cause a headache for foreign drivers than smaller towns and cities like the ones found in Sweden or Denmark. Consider the population of the city you plan to be visiting before you drive there if that is something that concerns you.

If you come from a place that drives on the right hand side of the road, then you need to remember that many European countries drive on the left side. This can take some getting used to, especially because of things like steering wheel placement.

Parking is one of the biggest causes of frustration for drivers in Europe. Parking can be very scarce. It is one of the main reasons that many people opt not to drive in Europe. Gather information on parking areas as well as directions to them before you travel.

If battling for a parking spot and busy city traffic does not appeal to you, check in to what types of public transit is available. Even if you choose to drive your own car to your hotel, from there it may be preferable as well as more convenient to take the bus or train.

Before you plan to drive into any European countries, check into all legal licensing information. In most cases, your driver’s license for your state or country is enough but it’s best to be sure. Sometimes you will be required to get a license that allows you to drive internationally. Failure to do so could result in fines or the inability to drive outside of your state.

If you would like to drive in Europe but you do not want to bring your own car from home, look into a car rental. Large scale rental companies can be found in virtually any country in the world. Book your car before you go and it will be ready when you arrive. Driving in Europe can be an exciting way to become acquainted with a new place.

0 My tour of Europe Vol 5 My Passage from Paris to London via the Euro TunnelAfter serving the Indian Railways for nearly 40 years I was really anxious to see the Euro Tunnel and the running of Euro Star at nearly 150 feet below the sea. My passage from Paris to London via the Euro Tunnel in about 40 mts during my trip to Europe confirmed the statement that the Euro Tunnel is an engineering marvel. My biggest disappointment was though we traveled for about 50 kms at 150 ft below the sea not a drop of water could be seen anywhere The sea could not be seen at all .It was a case of ” water, water every where but a not a drop to see ”

The Euro Tunnel is built across the English Channel connecting Folkston in England and Coquilles (near Calais)in France. The tunnels are 31 mi (50 km) long. There are two rail tunnels, each 25 ft (7.6 m) in diameter, and a central tunnel, 16 ft (4.8 m) in diameter, that is used for maintenance and ventilation. The service tunnel – the only one of its kind in the world – also acts as a “safe haven” maintained at a higher air pressure and thus remaining free from smoke and fumes. The depth of the tunnels below the seabed averages about 150 ft (45 m). The project is a joint English and French venture being the longest undersea tunnel in the world. The Channel Tunnel, or “Chunnel” constitutes an ambitious effort to span one of the most important waterways in the world. The English Channel stretches between France and Great Britain, separating the UK from continental Europe. It as served as a protective barrier in the past–helping to keep England free of invasion from Napoleon and Nazi Germany among others–but was a barrier to commerce and trade. For thousands of years, passage across the Channel was limited to boats and ferries The Euro Tunnel changed all of that forever.
Tunneling began in June, 1988 on the French side and December of that year on the British side and both met at the designated point accurately under the sea. The Chunnel officially opened in May, 1994. Eleven tunnel boring machines were used that dug the Euro Tunnel at the rate of 250 feet a day. The crushed material created by digging is carried out by conveyer belts, through the back of the tunnel boring machines. More than 20 million tonnes of “spoil” were removed from the tunnel and used to create 73 acres of new chalk grassland on the Kent coast. The concrete which lines the tunnels is the strongest in the world with a crushing strength twice that of concrete in nuclear power stations. The Channel Tunnel actually consists of three separate tunnels: two railway tunnels and a service tunnel between them.

The two terminals stand at Folkestone on the British side and Coquelles (near Calais) on the French side and transportation is permitted for Euro tunnel Shuttle, Euro star passenger trains and freight trains carrying cargo. Services exist allowing travelers to take through their cars and buses placed on trains and unloaded on the far side, allowing for easy transport. We sit in the bus and see the train carrying us to the other side across the channel below the sea. High speed trains traveling through the Channel Tunnel can complete a trip from London to Paris in about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
It is said that traffic levels have not been what the Channel Tunnel builders anticipated, and the endeavor has often operated at a loss. A higher than expected cost of digging the tunnels and lower than predicted tunnel traffic levels left Euro tunnel with huge debts. Euro tunnel shuttle locomotives are among the most powerful locomotives in the world – generating up to 7,500 horsepower and hauling trains of up to 2,400 tonnes at speeds of up to 85mph.

In short the Euro Tunnel is a must see for any one likes journey by train.
A friend wrote to me some time back that he cancelled his air ticket and took to Euro star just to see this 8th wonder. I think his decision was correct. We fly all the time. Why not see atleast once what Euro Tunnel is ?

Manchester is a Fascinating Holiday Destination

If you have never been to Manchester then it is time you booked a hotel and visited. The city is known as the Capital of the North and is at present day a flourishing destination and one of the most visited cities in the UK.

Manchester has always been known as an industrial city with its cotton mills and production of textiles. The remains of this industry can still be seen all over the city in its architecture and canals. The city is also famous for its canals which are now experiencing a rejuvenation as a method of travelling around the city and the location of water-side restaurants.

Over the last 10 years funding to improve and develop the city centre and outer districts has been poured into the city, including funds provided for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, and these days the city has been completely redeveloped.

Manchester is a very attractive place to go for shopping opportunities, with The Printworks and The Triangle offering designer and unique boutiques. The Arndale Centre was the last part of the city to receive a facelift and now facilitates the UK’s largest shopping centre.

Manchester is easy to travel to as it has its own airport with regular train going in and out to the city centre. The city offers two train stations; Piccadilly is the main station and provides links to all the major routes around the UK. Manchester also has a tram system known as the Metrolink that can be used to get around the centre or reach nearby districts.

The city centre is a trendy and chic destination to visit, you will be able to find varying designs of glass and steel and if you are interested in architecture you will be pleased to experience Victorian to contemporary architecture. The Town Hall is a Victorian impressive building which you can see on the picturesque St. Peter’s Square and, although no competitor to London, Manchester has its share of skyscrapers. The CIS Tower being the tallest building in the city and the new Beetham Tower holds within it a Hilton hotel, apartments and a restaurant.

Manchester is packed with culture and there are many musicians and bands that originate from here. You surely must have heard of artists like Take That, Simply Red, The Buzzcocks, The Fall, New Order, Oasis, Happy Mondays, The Smiths, and The Doves. The Manchester Evening News Arena is the largest arena in Europe and major mainstream pop artists play there regularly. Live music and concerts are held at venues all over the city, the most well known are Manchester Apollo and the Academy, and the more personal and smaller clubs of Roadhouse and Night and Day Cafe.

If you fancy going to see a West End show, then The Manchester Opera House holds regular events and the Palace Theatre, the Royal Exchange Theatre, and the Lowry Centre all have cultural and popular shows. Manchester has two very famous orchestras, The Hallé Orchestra being one of them and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra the other one; they both hold live music at the Bridgewater Hall.

Manchester is also the city of sport. Most people will have heard of Manchester City and Manchester United, both with their grounds in the city centre. The City of Manchester Stadium that was built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games is now the home of Manchester City, whilst Manchester United’s grounds are situated at the legendary Trafford Park. There were many other sporting facilities built for the Commonwealth Games, the largest being Manchester Aquatics Centre and The Manchester Velodrome.

There are two universities in Manchester, The University of Manchester and UMIST, the city caters for the mass of students by offering over 500 licensed premises in the city centre. At weekends people come here from all over the country and then it really does become ‘Madchester’. The Canal Street area is famous for being the centre of the city’s gay community, set beside the canal it is a well visited drinking area for everyone.

If you are considering visiting a city in the UK, Manchester is one not to be missed. Manchester is now long gone from the industrialized city it once was and now has an exciting atmosphere. Check out Manchester hotels online and take time visiting the city centres’ of the UK. Hotels in Manchester or in other UK cities are easy to find on the internet.
